چکیده

A review is presented of recent experiments and diagnostics based on Stark broadening of hydrogen Balmer lines in laser-induced optical breakdown plasmas. Experiments primarily utilize pulsed Nd:YAG laser radiation at 1064-nm and nominal 10 nanosecond pulse duration. Analysis of Stark broadening and shifts in the measured H-alpha spectra, combined with Boltzmann plots from H-alpha, H-beta and H-gamma lines to infer the temperature, is discussed for the electron densities in the range of 1016 – 1019 cm – 3 and for the temperatures in the range of 6,000 to 100,000 K.

Hydrogen Balmer Series Measurements in Laser- Induced Air Plasma

Time-resolved spectroscopy is employed to analyze micro plasma generated in laboratory air. Stark-broadened emission profiles for hydrogen alpha and beta allow us to determine plasma characteristics for specific time delays after plasma generation. Stark shift, asymmetry, and full width half maximum measurements are used to infer electron density. The measurements of hydrogen alpha and beta Bal...

Atomic Hydrogen and Molecular Carbon Emissions in Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

This article addresses hydrogen Balmer series measurements following laser-induced optical breakdown. Electron density on the order of 1 × 10 m−3 can be inferred using Hα Stark width and shift for plasma generated in 1 to 1.3 × 10 Pa, gaseous hydrogen. The Hβ line can be utilized for electron density up to 7 × 10 m−3. Laser ablation of aluminium reveals limits of application of the Balmer serie...

Laser Induced Plasmas in Liquid Water: From Single Pulse Breakdown to Repetitive Breakdown

Optical breakdown in water created by 10ns pulsed Nd:YAG laser operating at λ=1064 nm was studied. Spatial and temporal information was obtained with two intensified CCD cameras while spectral data were recorded using a time-integrating spectrometer. We have studied three water samples with different impurity content (ultrapure, distilled, and tap water) and followed the plasma evolution over a...

The effect of self-absorption correction using internal reference on determining heavy metals concentration by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy

The identification and concentration of heavy metals, which may be so harmful for the body, is determined by the method of calibration-free laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy using a special strategy. First, the plasma temperature is obtained using the Boltzmann plot. Then, a line with an inappreciable self-absorption is considered for each element as the reference. The modified intensities o...
